A university should attempt to encourage and develop the science and
cultural traditions for the inhabitants through continuing education,
as well as attempt to teach students to develop in the sciences while
considering and incorporating a public spirit. SNU has been running
a variety of continuing education courses so as to improve the quality
of life and upgrade communities with superb educational facilities
and an acquired special knowledge regarding technological information.
Establishing Basis of
Open Educational Society and Continuing Learning Society
University Growing with Communities
School of Continuing Education
As a second college the school has approximately 50 varying programs
every year, re-educating almost 1000 students. SNU was appointed
as the Regional Information Center for Continuing Education in Jeonnam
Province by the Ministry of Education. It has since taken a leading
role in the development of Human Resources.
Farming Promotion Center
The center has taken a motivated role, running the highest level
managerial courses, and supporting the export of regional farming
products abroad through an exchange with the Taiwan Farming Association.
SNU has been conducting various globalization programs such as International
Academic Conferences, a variety of seminars, and Student and Faculty
exchanges to name a few. The globalized mind is a driving force
in the growth from a regionalized Korean university to one that
competes with those of the world. Those who unequivocally pursue
their hopes and dreams, who seek the challenges inherent in a globalized
world, find a home here. Our students explored five oceans and six
territories, contributing to the educational quality of the university
while broadening their own educational experiences. This knowledge
proves to be an invaluable asset towards our commitment to contributing
to the world.
Pursuing to Conduct Globalization and Localization, SNU cultivates
regional leaders to lead a new millenium
International Exchanges Cooperation
International Memorandum of Exchanges with eight countries and nineteen
universities or colleges have expanded and strengthened academic
cooperation programs like student exchanges and have become the
foundation for students who are developing and international global
awareness and the skills associated with it.
Establishing and supporting the Educational Center for Mongolian
Farming Trainees, we are teaching professors and students from the
Mongolian Agricultural College, advanced agricultural techniques.
On the other hand, to learn advanced IT Techniques, we sent sixty
students to Neru University in India each year. We are also opening a Learning
Korea program and invite students from sister colleges to teach our
language and culture. This results in introducing and advertising
Korea as an advanced culture.

With the intent of becoming a world
class university, we pursue the mobilization of exchange cooperation
with eminent colleges from around the world.

The library is a spacious and comfortable accommodation with 1,700
seats, 400,000 books and various foreign scientific journals. It
assists in extensive research activities. All material are data-based
to supply copy services through the internet. A remodeled computerized
information room, internet searching information room and various
audio materials are satisfying users' various needs and requests
for information.

The museum collects, preserves, and displays valuable material and
artifacts in antiquary, anthropology, history, folk customs, art,
natural science, folk culture. It aids faculty and student's research
and learning. It not only houses general possessive antiquities,
but also cultural assets donated by the late Kangun, Seung-hyo Choi.
It also accommodates many relics excavated through scientific investigations
and digs. In 2001 a new exhibition hall was opened where we can
survey the culture of the eastern Cheonnam region.

The center provides students with various kinds of assistance concerning
student life on campus. I supplies options for psychological assistance
and individual and group counseling so as to promote healthy self
reflection and conflict resolution.

The center has a central role in regards to research support and
information allocation in the university. It runs professional courses
for students who wish to have experience in professional fields,
as well as for researching faculty in need of various secured computerized
materials. It aids advanced facilities in regards to national and
international exchange as well as providing scientific information
by setting up on-campus infra and current visual lecture rooms through
the information media center.

There are three buildings holding 540 persons, and one administration
building. In August, 2002, there were added three up-to-date buildings
accommodating 588 persons in a woman's dormitory. The administrative
building holds welfare facilities including a cafeteria and internet
cafe.

The school supplies excellent education facilities and professional
knowledge and information to enhance inhabitant's quality of life.
It stimulates community and regional activation. We are instigating
programs that transmit information in cultural, professional and
personal interest areas; programs that improve quality of life in
a rapidly changing society.

The center runs four prestigious Agricultural Manager Courses and
prestigious Women Agricultural Manager courses in areas concentrating
on tree, livestock, vegetable, and flowers in order to cultivate
competent managers with new techniques, management skills and marketing
abilities. It produces professional agricultural managers with the
aim to develop and activate a farming society.

Three different facilities: the university press, the broadcasting
station and the English (Phoenix) newspaper, advertize the university
and contribute to the development of campus culture, through stimulating
scientific and artistic activity. The broadcasting station gathers,
exchanges and shares public opinion on campus through radio and
television media. The press conducts, not only a basic role as a
press, but also various scientific programs contributing to the
scientific atmosphere on campus. Phoenix attempt to improve students'
language abilities by publishing English journals.

The center attempts research in linguistic theories and the development
of effective language teaching methods and textbooks. It contributes
to the improvement of resident's proficiency in foreign languages.
There are 23 high qualified foreign instructors and home instructors
who teach our students English conversation through credit and non-credit
courses.

The laboratoryr assists undergraduate student experiments as well as
graduate student and faculty experiments by maximizing usage rates.
Due to the extremely expensive nature of precision instruments and
controls, this center makes available those instruments in a single
location. They are open to regional colleges and industries, thus
promoting the industry-university- cooperative research programs.

The university farm helps students in the agricultural fields practice
in a hands-on environment. This farm is beneficial to both students
and faculty in that it serves as a production education site, thus,
making farm products readily available in regards to education and
experimentation.

The farm breeds livestock such as beef cattle, Korean cattle, pigs,
various life-stock and chickens for use in experimentation, practice
and research. It contributes to the development of the regional
breeding farm house by researching and developing new livestock
breeding techniques and the sharing of information.

The forest has been prepared for various scientific research in
comprehensive field experiments. It focuses on the reasonable management
of the forest with the intention of maintaining and managing a healthy
eco-system.

The factory accumulates and supplies advanced technologies, assists
student experiments and practices, faculty scientific research,
as well as the cooperates in development with industries. The education
of engineering is proving a positive factor in the development of
student and faculty research.

The institute cultivates professional knowledge needed for future
teachers. It provides the qualities and skills needed for the demands
of the profession. It attempts to contribute to the development
of education in a professional environment.
